NEW YORK.– The main authorities of New York participated this Saturday in the activities organized for the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, a commemoration that brought together thousands of people and highlighted the state’s historical role in the birth of the nation.
The mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, led part of the proceedings alongside the state governor, Kathy Hochul, and the governor of New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill, during the maritime event Sail4th 250, one of the main celebrations scheduled for Independence Day.
During the day, Mamdani described it as an honor to participate in a date of such historical relevance and stated that New York continues to be a key setting for the country’s development, recalling that it was the first American capital and one of the main stages of the War of Independence.
For her part, Hochul highlighted that the anniversary represents an opportunity to remember the legacy of those who fought for independence, while calling for the preservation of the values upon which the nation was founded. The governor also invited residents and tourists to visit the various historical sites in the state related to the American Revolution.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, a former U.S. Navy officer, praised the presence of international vessels and delegations at the celebration, noting that the participation of allied countries reflects support for the principles of freedom and democracy promoted by the United States.

The festivities in New York included a parade of more than 40 tall ships and dozens of military vessels from different countries, as well as air shows, cultural activities, and fireworks displays as part of the official agenda for the 250th anniversary of American independence.
