Guayaquil.- An Ecuadorian court sentenced a man to seven years in prison for sexually abusing his underage stepdaughter in the Amazonian province of Sucumbíos, the Prosecutor's Office reported this Thursday.
The man, identified as Carlos Adalberto C. G. and 40 years old, maintained a sentimental relationship with the victim's mother, a bond that he took advantage of to "commit the crime on more than one occasion," according to the Public Ministry.
The abuse occurred when the victim was between 11 and 12 years old, and to prevent her from reporting it, he allegedly offered her money and also "open a bank account in her name so she could manage the dollars with which he sought impunity".
In the trial, the Prosecution presented the testimony of the minor and an expert in clinical psychology, crime, and victimology who interviewed her and concluded that her account was credible, in addition to other expert and documentary evidence that led the judges to declare the aggressor guilty.
