Sheinbaum highlights economic stability on the first anniversary of her electoral victory

Mexico City, June 2 (EFE).- Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, celebrated this Monday the first anniversary of her victory in the 2024 presidential elections with an optimistic assessment of the country’s direction, especially highlighting economic stability.

In statements from her morning conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum highlighted that the country shows economic strength, an increase in foreign investment, and progress in strategic works.

Furthermore, Sheinbaum stated that the course of her Government is going “very well” since she assumed the presidency eight months ago, and assured that the country is also transforming.

“We are doing very well. Very well. (…) There is growth, there is well-being,” he affirmed.

Furthermore, he highlighted economic data such as the strength and resilience of the peso against the dollar and reforms within the country, such as the election of judges by vote, and an 11% increase in real terms of tax revenues.

Among other economic achievements, the president highlighted that Mexico recorded a record in foreign direct investment in the first quarter of the year, reaching 21.4 billion dollars, and that the average salary reached its highest level in four decades.

He also mentioned that labor poverty is at its lowest point in 20 years and that there is growth despite the effects of global tensions due to the tariff war initiated by the U.S. government of President Donald Trump.

Regarding infrastructure, Sheinbaum detailed that several strategic railway projects are already underway, such as the Mexico City–Pachuca, Mexico City–Querétaro trains, and new routes for the Maya Train and the Interoceanic Corridor, in the southeast of the country.

Regarding social programs, the president highlighted that all high school students already have a scholarship, and that this month the direct delivery of resources to indigenous peoples and Afro-descendant communities begins, as part of a constitutional reform.

“Today (welfare programs) are rights in the Constitution, (there are now) three new programs,” he emphasized, referring to his three new initiatives to disburse public funds to all minors studying basic level, to women aged 60 to 64, and to provide house-to-house care for senior citizens.

Finally, the president assured that Mexico is now “a more democratic country, advancing more towards a country with more justice”, after the unprecedented judicial elections on Sunday, when judges, magistrates and ministers were elected for the first time in history, among more than 800 judicial positions, while reiterating that her government will maintain its commitment to transformation and social welfare.
