According to the testimonies collected by the investigators within the school to reconstruct the context of the attack, some of the students spoke of a discussion that had arisen days ago due to jealousy issues over a girl. The newspaper Corriere della Sera explained that during the arrest, the boy confirmed: "I wanted to kill him. He shouldn't have been allowed to publish a photo of him with my girlfriend on social media." It all started in the bathroom during a class change, adds Milan's diary, "there was an exchange of accusations, an argument, and then the aggressor took out the knife and chased the victim who tried to run towards his classroom, but caught up with him and stabbed him right in front of the door. The killer could be charged with premeditation in addition to murder and the testimonies of his classmates are being examined, who claim that it was not the first time that the boy went to school armed with a knife. The Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, deeply regretted the death of the young man "which deeply affects the school community and the entire country" and emphasized "the urgency of recovering the culture of respect, starting with the school".
