Washington.- The suspect in the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, arrested by the authorities, has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old resident of Utah, according to local media based on investigation sources.
The identity of the suspect was revealed shortly after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, reported during an interview that the alleged assassin had been arrested.
According to several media outlets, the suspect was arrested near Zion National Park, in St. George, about 400 kilometers south of the scene of the attack in Orem (Utah), after agreeing with his father to surrender.
The detainee was taken into custody by the local police around 11:00 p.m. local time on Thursday night (5:00 a.m. GMT Friday), according to federal sources who informed The New York Times.
Robinson was pointed out by several media as a good student and several photos have been shared with his family, in a university environment and with what appears to be a relationship with weapons from an early age.
In the confusion of the first hours, the authorities arrested two people who were later released after verifying that they had nothing to do with the murder.Kirk was killed this Wednesday during an event at Utah Valley University after being shot in the neck while conducting one of his well-known debates with students to whom he confronted with his conservative ideas.
