Vatican City.- Pope Leo XIV urged the faithful to implore God to grant peace to all peoples experiencing the tragedy of war. The statement was made during the general audience on Wednesday, held in the Paul VI hall due to the intense heat that prevented it from being held in St. Peter's Square.
In his greeting to the Polish pilgrims, the pontiff remembered Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe, who gave his life in the Auschwitz concentration camp to save a father of a family. "I encourage you to follow the example of his heroic attitude of sacrifice for others. Through his intercession, implore God to grant peace to all peoples who are experiencing the tragedy of war," he pointed out.
When addressing the Arabic-speaking faithful, the Pope dedicated some special words to those from Iraq and the Holy Land, asking: "May the Lord bless you all and always protect you from all evil."
During his catechesis, Leo XIV emphasized that “Jesus is not scandalized by our fragility. He knows well that no friendship is immune to the risk of betrayal. But he continues to trust. He continues to sit at the table with his own”.
