San Salvador.- The number of deaths in traffic accidents in El Salvador reached 896 so far this year, 8% less than in 2024, while the number of injured increased by 12%, according to official data reviewed this Saturday by EFE.
The data from the National Road Safety Observatory of the Government of El Salvador indicates that between January 1 and October 3 of the current year, the death of 896 people in traffic accidents was recorded, 80 less than in 2024, when 976 were counted.
The figures on the website of the observatory indicate that 9,763 people were injured, 1,038 more than the 8,725 recorded in the same period of 2024.

In total, the traffic accidents computed in this period totaled 16,287, 9% more than the 14,944 in 2024. The report indicates that distracted driving remains the leading cause of traffic accident deaths, with 311 cases, followed by excessive speed, with 191 deaths, and crossing into the opposite lane, with 120 fatalities.Of the total number of people who died in these traffic accidents, 362 were motorcyclists, 352 pedestrians, and 27 cyclists.
El Salvador closed 2024 with 20,301 road accidents, 11,954 injuries, and 1,303 deaths, 3.7% more than those recorded in 2023.
