US President Donald Trump assured that he does not want Somali immigrants in the United States and pointed out to journalists that they should "go back to where they came from" and that "their country is not good for a reason".
"I don't want them in our country, I'll be honest with you," he stated during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Trump said that the United States would go "down the wrong path if we continue to welcome garbage into our country."

His derogatory comments took place upon learning that immigration authorities were planning a police operation in Minnesota's large Somali community. The state authorities have condemned the plan, arguing that it could unfairly affect U.S. citizens who may appear to be from the African nation. Minneapolis and St Paul, known jointly as the Twin Cities or Twin Cities, are home to one of the largest Somali communities in the world and the largest in the United States. Trump's comments represent a worsening of his recent attacks against the Somali community in Minnesota - whose protected status in the United States for decades has recently been committed to revoke - and against his Democratic party politicians. Trump has also recently expanded his months-long crackdown on immigration, following last week's shooting of two National Guard members in Washington D.C., allegedly perpetrated by an Afghan who had moved to the United States. Trump did not refer to that incident when talking about Somalis. During his remarks, which came at the end of a televised cabinet meeting that lasted several hours, Trump said: "I don't want them in our country. I'll be honest with you." "Someone will say: 'Oh, that's not politically correct.' I don't care. I don't want them in our country." He also stated that "in Somalia, which is barely a country, you know, they don't have..., they don't have anything. They just kill each other. There is no structure." Next, he went on to criticize Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American elected to Congress, with whom he has repeatedly clashed for years. "I always watch her," Trump affirmed, and added that Omar "hates everyone. And I think she's an incompetent person." In a social media post, Omar responded that "his obsession with me is creepy." And he added: "I hope he gets the help he needs so much."
