New York.- U.S. President, Donald Trump, paid $5.6 million to writer E. Jean Carroll this Tuesday after she won a 2023 civil case for sexual abuse and defamation against him, but the tycoon still owes her another $83 million, stemming from a subsequent case, for defaming her.
“Three years ago, a nine-person jury unanimously found President Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation against E. Jean Carroll. Today, we are pleased to report that she has received the damages awarded by the jury as a result of that verdict,” her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said in a statement to the media.

According to the digital case file, Carroll has received an amount of 5.6 million corresponding to the compensation plus interest, which was in a bank account controlled by the judicial system pending authorization for its transfer.
This week, Judge Lewis Kaplan, who presided over the case, ordered the disbursement in light of new attempts by Trump’s defense to prolong the process, and despite the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court was clear regarding the tycoon’s obligation to compensate the author.

The Supreme Court refused on June 29 to review an appeal filed by Trump against the ruling that ordered him to pay $5 million in damages to Carroll.
“WE WON! THIS VICTORY IS FOR ALL THE WOMEN OF THE WORLD!”, the author wrote shortly after on her Substack account.
The case originated following accusations by Carroll, a former columnist for Elle magazine, that Trump sexually abused her in a dressing room at a New York department store in the mid-1990s.

Carroll pursued another second civil defamation lawsuit because the president continued to attack her on social media in relation to the sexual abuse, and she secured another victory with a much larger award of $83 million, which the tycoon also challenged and has yet to pay.
