Two police officers die and 30 people are injured in Iran protests

Tehran.- At least two police officers died and another 30 people were injured this Wednesday in clashes between protesters and security forces in the center of Iran, official media reported.

In the exchange of fire between the "rioters" and the police, two officers died and 30 other people were injured, according to Fars, which did not report the identity of the injured. The Mizan agency, of the Judiciary, published an account similar to that of Fars of what happened. Protests have been ongoing in Iran for 11 days, in mobilizations that began due to the collapse of the Iranian rial against the dollar but which soon turned to calls for the end of the Islamic Republic. Protests have spread to 92 cities in 27 of the country's 31 provinces in clashes that have claimed the lives of 36 people, not counting the two police officers who died today, according to data from the opposition NGO HRANA, based in the United States. At least 2,076 protesters have been detained so far. Iranian authorities do not report the number of civilians killed in the largest mobilizations against the Islamic Republic since 2022, when massive protests occurred after the death of Mahsa Amini after being arrested for not wearing the Islamic veil properly.
