Caracas.- The head of Venezuela's Interior, Diosdado Cabello, reported this Monday that the diplomatic police of his country is in contact with the United States to guarantee the protection of its embassy in Caracas, in view of the alleged plan of "extremist sectors" to place "lethal explosives" at the headquarters of the North American country.
In the weekly press conference of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the also general secretary of that political formation said that the U.S. received the information and assumed it "with the rigor of the case".

Venezuela and the U.S. have not had diplomatic relations since 2019. The Chavista official, whose statements were broadcast by the state-owned channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), indicated that the diplomatic police "has been in constant contact with them to provide protection to the entire area" where the embassy is located. Around midnight this Sunday, President Nicolás Maduro's chief negotiator in the dialogues with the U.S., Jorge Rodríguez, said that, by "three different ways", Washington was warned of a "false flag operation" against its embassy in Caracas "prepared by extremist sectors of the local right", which consists, he said, of placing "lethal explosives" in the place. According to Cabello, this plan "has a lot to do with the desperation" of the "extremist sector" that "remains of that opposition that it directs," said the minister, the former deputy María Corina Machado, whom he accused of being, along with the former commissioner of the extinct Metropolitan Police of Caracas Iván Simonovis, "the architect" of "violent events". On Sunday, Rodríguez indicated that the "false flag" plan was also reported to a European delegation, without specifying the country, so that they could communicate "the seriousness of this information to U.S. diplomatic personnel." Caracas and Washington are experiencing a new episode of tensions since August, marked by the US military deployment in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela, which the Republican government defends as an operation against the alleged drug trafficking coming from the South American nation, while the Maduro government insists that it is a "threat" to promote a "regime change".As of this Sunday, U.S. authorities have reported at least six attacks on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean since September, in which several people have died.
