Venezuelan Armed Forces train civilians in weapons handling amid tensions with the U.S.

Caracas, Venezuela – Members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) conducted a drill in Caracas on September 20 to train civilians in the handling of weapons, amid an atmosphere of growing tension with the United States. During the activity, which included the active participation of citizens, the military instructed participants in basic techniques for the use and handling of weapons, seeking to strengthen popular defense against what the Venezuelan government considers an external threat. This type of exercise is part of a national plan promoted by the FANB to prepare the population for possible conflict scenarios, in a context of strong diplomatic and military tensions with the United States, which maintains a significant naval presence in the Caribbean Sea.

Venezuelan authorities have accused Washington of harassment and have reinforced military instruction in communities across the country, seeking to strengthen civilian militias and territorial defense.
