A video from Nicaragua’s July 19 Revolution Day celebration has sparked debate on social media after showing Vice President Rosario Murillo repeatedly directing her daughter, Camila Ortega, while delivering a speech.
The footage, recorded at Plaza de la Fe during the 47th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution, shows Camila Ortega standing beside her mother holding a light to illuminate Murillo’s notes. Murillo is seen adjusting the position of her daughter’s hand several times as she continues speaking.
The video has generated mixed reactions online. Critics described the scene as a public display of the family’s internal power dynamics, while supporters have not publicly characterized the interaction in the same way.
The event was attended by President Daniel Ortega and senior Sandinista officials as part of the annual commemoration of the 1979 Sandinista Revolution. During the ceremony, Ortega and Murillo received tributes marking the anniversary.
