"Martínez fulfilled the assigned activity, received and moved the firearm to the vicinity of El Golfito park, and, aboard a vehicle, handed it over to (one of the masterminds of the crime, Elder José) Arteaga Hernández, who in turn gave it to the teenager who shot the victim", the Prosecutor's Office stated in a statement. The woman, who will have to serve her sentence in a prison, was convicted of the crimes of homicide; conspiracy to commit a crime, and manufacturing, trafficking, carrying, or possessing firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition, all aggravated behaviors. The Prosecutor's Office specified that during the investigation it was learned that Martinez "was part of a criminal group dedicated to selective homicides and other illicit acts" in the Colombian capital and was contacted by Arteaga Hernandez, one of those accused of orchestrating the senator's crime. Nine people have been arrested for the assassination of Uribe Turbay, including the minor who shot the politician, who was sentenced on August 27 to seven years in prison for attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms. The assassination of the senator, who died on August 11 after being in serious condition for two months, shocked the country and has led to a complex judicial investigation. Last December, the Police stated that their strongest hypothesis is that the crime was ordered by the Segunda Marquetalia, a dissident group of the extinct FARC led by alias Iván Márquez, who was the guerrilla's chief negotiator in the dialogues with the Government that ended with the signing of a peace agreement in 2016. Senator Uribe Turbay was one of the cards of the Democratic Center, led by former President Álvaro Uribe (2002-2010) for this year's presidential elections in which the right will seek to regain power after the country's first left-wing government.
