Marileidy Paulino will seek her third crown at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025

Santo Domingo. — Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino leads the delegation of the Dominican Republic that will compete in the World Athletics Championships, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21. The double world champion and Olympic medalist will seek to add a third world title and continue to consolidate her name among the best athletes on the planet.

The information was provided by “Alexis Peguero”, president of the “Dominican Athletics Federation (FDAA)”, who highlighted the preparation and commitment of the Dominican athletes who will represent the country.

“We believe in and trust our athletes and coaches. We hope to have medals. The world championships are a box of surprises, but our delegation is ready to give their best,” expressed Peguero.

Marileidy, for the triple world crown

Marileidy Paulino, originally from Nizao, will try to conquer her third gold medal in world championships. The sprinter already achieved gold in the 4×400 relay in Eugene 2022 and in the 400 meter dash in Budapest 2023, where she made history by becoming the first Dominican woman to win an individual world title, with a time of 48.76 seconds. Although he recently fell in the grand final of the Diamond League, Peguero trusts that in Tokyo Paulino will return to his maximum level:

“We know that Marileidy will have one of her best performances. She is focused, prepared and mentally strong,” he assured.

So far in 2025, the Olympic champion of Paris 2024 has recorded four victories and two defeats, with her best time of the year in 48.81 seconds, achieved at the Paris meeting of the Diamond League.

Dominican delegation in Tokyo 2025

Dominican Republic will be represented by four athletes:

• Marileidy Paulino – Women’s 400 meters
• Alexander Ogando – 200 and 400 meters
• Lidio Féliz – 200 meters
• Liranyi Alonso – 100 and 200 meters

Ogando arrives in great shape, after obtaining a bronze medal in the final of the 200 meters of the Diamond League in Switzerland, with a time of 20.14 seconds, and conquering first place in the Philadelphia stop of the Grand Slam Track with 20.13 seconds.

For her part, Liranyi Alonso is emerging as one of the team’s surprises after winning gold and silver at the Junior Pan American Games and obtaining silver in the 100 meters at the NACAC Championship last month.

Expectations and preparation

Alexis Peguero highlighted the dedication and discipline of the Dominican athletes and expressed that the federation has worked together with the coaches to ensure they arrive in optimal conditions. He also praised coach José Ludwig Rubio, whom he described as “a source of pride for the country” for his impact on the development of national talents.

“Rubio has been fundamental in the training of our athletes, such as Liranyi Alonso and other young people who are taking firm steps in international athletics,” he stated.
