SEATTLE – Cal Raleigh wrote his name in Major League history this Wednesday night by hitting his
60th home run of the season, becoming the first catcher to reach that figure and just the seventh player in history to achieve it.

The initial hit was a monumental 438-foot home run to the upper deck of right field at T-Mobile Park, marking number 59 in his personal count. Later, he hit another home run to seal a historic day with two home runs and reach the emblematic figure of 60.
With this milestone, Raleigh joins a legendary list that includes Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Maris, Babe Ruth, and Aaron Judge, the latter his main rival in the race for the
American League Most Valuable Player Award in 2025.
The Mariners’ catcher not only extended his historic season, but already owns multiple records:
- Most home runs in a season for Seattle, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr.’s 57.
- Most for a switch-hitter, surpassing Mickey Mantle’s 54 in 1961.
- Most home runs for a catcher, surpassing Salvador Pérez’s 48 in 2021.
In the same first inning, Seattle’s offense was on fire with a trio of home runs: Julio Rodríguez hit his number 32 of the year (tying his personal best) and Jorge Polanco hit number 25, giving the Mariners an early lead against the Rockies. Raleigh also added a two-run double in his second at-bat, reaffirming his role as the team’s offensive engine.
