Courtney and the bullfighting relay hold the Bulls against the Lions

LA ROMANA.– Justin Courtney pitched five scoreless innings and the Toros del Este bullpen responded with authority again to lead to a 3-1 victory over the Leones del Escogido, a result that keeps the Romanenses in second place in the Round Robin of the 2025-26 LIDOM tournament.

After his departure, the orange relief —composed of Anderson Severino, Jimmy Yacabonis, Yaramil Hiraldo, J.C. Mejía and Joe Corbett— limited the reds to an unearned run in four innings. Corbett took charge of the ninth to earn his fourth save.

With the victory, the Bulls improved their record to 8-6, snapped a four-game losing streak, and solidified their position in second place in the standings.

The Races

The Toros scored all their runs in the second inning, taking advantage of defensive errors by the Escogido. A hit by Onix Vega combined with an error by the catcher allowed the first run, scored by Eloy Jiménez.
Then, a ground ball by Rafael Lantigua and another error by shortstop Erik González facilitated the runs of Eric Filia and Vega himself, putting the score at 3-0. The Lions' only run came in the seventh inning, when Michael De La Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Jorge Mateo.
