Kansas City. Dominican Cristopher Sánchez experienced his worst start of the season as he was punished by the Kansas City Royals, who crushed the Philadelphia Phillies 15-1 this Monday at Kauffman Stadium.

Sánchez, who entered the game with a 2.00 ERA and was among the top candidates for the National League Cy Young Award and even to start the upcoming All-Star Game, allowed career highs with 12 hits, nine runs, and three home runs in just 3.1 innings of work.
The Dominican left-hander had a first inning to forget. After a throwing error by shortstop Trea Turner that prevented a possible double play, the Kansas City offense exploded for six runs, including a three-run home run by Luke Maile.
Later on, Sánchez was also punished with solo home runs by Venezuelan Salvador Pérez and Lane Thomas.

With this performance, his earned run average increased from 2.00 to 2.62. Furthermore, since his historic streak of 50.2 consecutive scoreless innings ended, he has recorded a 5.56 ERA over his last six starts.
The defeat also marked the first series lost for Philadelphia since mid-June.
Schlittler responds with a gem and José Caballero hits two home runs
In St. Petersburg, Cam Schlittler put his worst outing of the year behind him by pitching eight solid innings of one-run ball, guiding the New York Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
