The Dominican team leads the head-to-head series 2-1 in direct encounters within the tournament, after winning two of the three matches played between both teams since the creation of the championship. The first clash occurred in the second round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic, when the Dominican Republic defeated the United States with a score of 3-1 in a match that was part of the Quisqueyan team's path to the undefeated title. Four years later, in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, both teams faced each other twice. In the first round, the Dominicans prevailed again with a score of 7-5. However, the United States took revenge in the second round by winning 6-3. A curious fact is that on the two occasions when both teams faced each other in the second round —in 2013 and 2017— the winner of that match ended up winning the tournament championship.

Now, the story adds a new chapter. Dominican Republic and the United States will meet again, this time in the semifinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, in a duel that promises high intensity and will define which of the two powers will advance to the final of the tournament.
