Erik González joins the Dominican roster after Jeremy Peña's absence

MIAMI. – Dominican shortstop Erik González was included in the Dominican Republic's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, replacing fellow shortstop Jeremy Peña, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

According to reports, González boarded a flight from Santiago to Miami and is expected to arrive in time to get his uniform and be available for tonight's match against Nicaragua. The incorporation of the versatile infielder brings defensive depth to the Dominican team, which seeks to maintain its competitiveness in the international tournament after the unexpected loss of Peña.
