The game, which was decided in the bottom of the ninth inning, had Magneuris Sierra as its hero, who scored the winning run after a wild pitch by Luis Guerrero (0-1), thus giving the green team their second consecutive victory of the season. The home team had taken control of the game in the fourth inning with a five-run rally, led by a home run by Miguel Sanó with a teammate on base, punishing Yoniel Curet's pitching. In the fifth, the Estrellas added two more against Jonathan Bermúdez, momentarily extending their lead. However, the Lions reacted strongly in the ninth inning. Socrates Brito led the scarlet offense with three RBIs and one run scored, while Cesar Prieto and Franchy Cordero also contributed key hits that tied the game 7-7. But the last word was for the home team. With runners in scoring position, a deflected throw from Guerrero allowed Sierra to cross the plate with the decisive run, sealing the Eastern victory. Patrick Weigel (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. By the Stars, Sanó went 4-2 with four RBIs, a run scored and a walk, while Josh Lester contributed 4-3 with two runs scored. For the Leones, Prieto hit 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI; Brito, 1-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored; and Canario, 1-for-2 with one run scored and three walks. With this triumph, the Estrellas Orientales improve their record to 2-0, while the Leones del Escogido fall to 0-2 at the start of the winter tournament. The Estrellas will continue their schedule this Saturday in search of maintaining their undefeated record, while the Leones return to Santo Domingo to face the Tigres del Licey at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium at 4:00 PM.
