Gary Sánchez agrees to a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to report

United States. Brewers continue to reinforce their roster for next season after reaching an agreement for one campaign and US$1.75 million with Dominican catcher Gary Sánchez, according to a report by journalist Jon Heyman of MLB Network. So far, the organization has not made the deal official.

Sánchez, a veteran of 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, saw action in 2025 with the Baltimore Orioles, although his participation was limited to 29 games due to physical problems. The Dominican spent a good part of the year on the injured list, first for inflammation in his right wrist and later for a sprain in his right knee that kept him out until the end of the season. Since leaving the New York Yankees —with whom he played for seven seasons after signing as an international free agent in 2009— Sánchez has played for several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and the Brewers themselves, in addition to a brief stint in the Minor Leagues with the San Francisco Giants organization in 2023.

Although he hasn't achieved the offensive consistency he displayed in his early years in the Bronx, the catcher has shown flashes of power in recent seasons. In 2023, he finished his stint with San Diego strongly by hitting 19 home runs in 72 games. In 2025, before the injuries, he starred in a productive stretch in June, batting .354 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in just 13 games.

If he assumes the role of substitute receiver, Sánchez could bring experience and occasional power from the bench. In his MLB career, he has a .224 average, a .309 on-base percentage, and a .461 slugging percentage (OPS of .770), in addition to 189 home runs and 509 RBIs in 859 games. The Dominican was called to two All-Star Games (2017 and 2019), won a Silver Slugger and had two seasons of at least 30 home runs. In 2016 he finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting after hitting 20 home runs and recording an OPS of 1.032 in just 53 games. With this signing, Milwaukee is betting on the experience and power of the veteran catcher as a depth piece in their roster for the new season.
