San Francisco de Macorís. – The Gigantes del Cibao announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Jimmy Cordero, who will remain with the organization after agreeing as a free agent to a contract for the next two seasons of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The veteran reliever was originally selected by the Leones del Escogido in the 2014 rookie draft and has accumulated a solid career of nine seasons in LIDOM, standing out as one of the most consistent arms from the bullpen. During his regular season career, Cordero has a 2-4 record with an ERA of 2.84 in 97 games, working 95.0 innings, with a WHIP of 1.27. In that period he has achieved 18 saves, allowing 83 hits, issuing 38 walks and recording 87 strikeouts. In the postseason, he has participated on four occasions, accumulating three saves and 29 strikeouts in 25.0 innings, showcasing his ability to pitch in high-pressure situations. His performance with the Gigantes del Cibao in the past season was key to the team’s relief, recording an ERA of 1.08 in eight appearances, with a record of 0-0, in 8.1 innings pitched, he struck out 11 batters, gave up three walks and finished with an excellent WHIP of 0.72.
