Santo Domingo.– The Athletics officially announced this Thursday the signing of Dominican shortstop Johenssy Colomé, who received a bonus of US$4 million, the highest awarded to a player from the Dominican Republic in the international signing market for 2026.

The agreement places Colomé among the top five bonds of the entire international class and confirms the high level of expectation that the young man of just
16 years old has generated, considered one of the most complete talents in the group.
Son of former Major League pitcher
Jesús Colomé, the prospect has stood out for an uncommon combination of offensive power and defensive skills at shortstop. MLB evaluators compare his
bat speed and strength to that of
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., while his
elegance and defensive range are reminiscent of third baseman
Manny Machado.
A bid that raised its value
Originally, Colomé had a pre-agreement with the Athletics for around
US$2.3 million, but his accelerated physical and technical development led several Major League teams to try to enter the negotiation with higher offers.
Faced with that scenario, Oakland's management reacted and decided to significantly increase the proposal to secure the signing of the Dominican shortstop, whom they consider a key piece of their sports project for the future, especially in the franchise's transition to Las Vegas.
Tradition of investments in Dominican talent
The signing of Colomé continues the Athletics' historical policy of investing heavily in Dominican talent. In 2019, the organization awarded
US$5.1 million to
Robert Puason, and in the past developed figures such as
Miguel Tejada, MVP of the American League.
With this new investment, the Athletics reinforce their presence in the academies of the Dominican Republic and their commitment to training the pillars of their franchise from an early age.
