With a decisive double in the eighth inning, the Dominican star drove in the run that sealed the Mariners' 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers, thus tying the American League Division Series (ALDS) at one win apiece.

The center fielder, face of the franchise and symbol of the new era in Seattle, responded at the most critical moment, just after the Tigers tied the game. His hit to left field brought Cal Raleigh to the plate, who had hit a double moments before, and unleashed euphoria at T-Mobile Park, a venue that had not celebrated a postseason victory since 2001.
“This has to be number one,” Rodríguez stated after the match. “We haven't had a moment like this here in a long time, so being able to give the team a victory was something really special. Seeing the fans fired up was very special; I will always cherish that memory in my heart.”
Manager Dan Wilson praised his team's responsiveness:
“This was a reaction game for us, and they did exactly that”.
The triumph not only revitalized the Mariners emotionally, but also kept them alive before traveling to Detroit for Games 3 and 4. Seattle also became the first team to defeat ace Tarik Skubal three times in the same season.
Before Rodríguez's stellar moment, Jorge Polanco had been the offensive spark with two solo home runs against Skubal, providing the initial lead. On the mound, Luis Castillo held firm, allowing just one hit in his first 18 batters faced.
The Seattle pitching staff —Castillo, Speier, Brash, and closer Andrés Muñoz— limited the Tigers to only three hits, a franchise postseason record. Muñoz, who had pitched two innings the previous day, earned his first playoff save.
“No matter who comes in, you know they're going to do their job,” said Castillo, who watched from the dugout with his characteristic clenched fist gesture, symbol of his nickname, La Piedra.
With this victory, the Mariners sent a clear message: they are ready to compete and respond under pressure. If they face elimination in this series, it will not be for lack of character.
