Miguel Ángel Fernández, former president and current treasurer, along with captain Emilio Bonifacio, was responsible for the announcement during the team's presentation for the 2025-26 season this Monday night. "The Tigres del Licey proudly present the Manny Mota Award, a recognition that honors the player who combines sporting excellence with human greatness," said Fernández at the event. He highlighted that the award is inspired by the example of a man who has been a symbol of perseverance, dedication, and generosity. "Manny Mota not only shone for his ability with the bat or his discipline in the game. He shone because he never forgot the value of serving, of training, of accompanying others," he added. He added that the "Manny Mota Award" will distinguish the player who, in addition to excelling on the field, reflects the values that define the true DNA of Licey: commitment, respect, empathy, and purposeful leadership. "With this recognition, the Tigres del Licey celebrate not only the baseball player, but the human being who uses his platform to inspire and transform," he pointed out. He declared that the award seeks to remind us that true greatness is not measured in statistics, but in actions that uplift others. "In each season there will be a winner, but in each story of service there will be a reason to believe in the power of baseball as a force for good. With the 'Manny Mota Award', Licey reaffirms that true victory is the one obtained when sport becomes an instrument of humanity," said the blue executive. The jury will be made up of a representation that reflects the essence of the Licey Athletic Club, uniting the institutional, sporting and human vision. It will be made up of the president of Licey, a member of the Board of Directors, the general manager, the president of the Women's Branch, the director of Public Relations, the press director, the clubhouse representative, and two honorary external representatives. "Each member will contribute their experience, judgment, and commitment from different areas, adding perspectives that reflect who we are: passion, respect, unity, and empathy. Because in Licey, everything comes from our DNA. More than a team, we are a family that believes in the greatness of the human being, and this award seeks to recognize precisely that, the humanity behind the uniform," added Fernández.
