LIDOM President Vitelio urges support for the Serie del Cibao in New York

NEW YORK. – The president of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, called on Dominicans residing in the United States to enthusiastically support the Serie del Cibao, which will be played by the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Gigantes del Cibao at Citi Field from November 7 to 9.

During a press conference held this Thursday in New York, Mejía highlighted the importance of these three meetings, which will be “valid for the Regular Series” and could be decisive in the classification of the teams. “These are official games that we bring so that Dominicans can enjoy our baseball. We want this experience to be unforgettable for everyone,” said the president of LIDOM, who thanked the teams involved and the businessman Félix Cabrera, organizer of the event. The series, which will be played for the Great New York Cup 2025, will mark the first time that two teams from the Cibao region face each other on this international stage.

Félix Cabrera promises a show

The businessman Cabrera announced that the Cibao Series will be much more than baseball, as it will feature the presentation of between 15 and 20 musical orchestras throughout the three days.
“We want this platform to show the world what Dominican sport and culture is,” he said.

The press conference featured the participation of emblematic figures such as Cooperstown Hall of Fame member, David Ortiz, who proposed dedicating the series to the memory of Octavio Dotel and Rubby Pérez, who died in the Jet Set tragedy. Former baseball player Nelson Cruz, via a Zoom connection, congratulated the organizers and assured that he will provide all his support to the event. Likewise, the immortal of Dominican sports Winston “Chilote” Llenas, current vice president of LIDOM, and the presidents of the participating teams, Víctor García Sued (Águilas) and Alfredo Acebal Rizek (Gigantes), showed their enthusiasm for this historic series. The event was also supported by the Dominican consul in New York, Jesús “Chu” Vásquez, as well as former pitcher Bartolo Colón.
