MIAMI.– Everything indicates that the Dominican Sandy Alcántara will continue to be the main figure of the Miami Marlins’ rotation, as the organization does not plan to trade the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner before the trade deadline.

According to a report by journalist Ken Rosenthal, of The Athletic, the Marlins plan to retain Alcantara and strategically reinforce their roster to strengthen their aspirations of advancing to the postseason.

Miami is going through one of its best moments of the season by recording a mark of 16 wins and four losses in its last 20 games, equaling the best 20-game streak in franchise history. With a 52-42 record, the team currently occupies the third Wild Card spot in the National League.

Alcántara has been a fundamental piece in that resurgence. The Dominican right-hander has a 10-4 record with a 4.00 ERA, and is coming off one of his best performances of the year after pitching eight one-run innings against the Athletics last July 4th.

Alongside fellow All-Star selection Max Meyer, Alcántara leads a rotation that has managed to remain competitive despite the multiple injuries suffered by the pitching staff throughout the campaign.

According to the report, the Marlins’ front office would not only avoid parting ways with their Dominican ace, but would also look to incorporate a third baseman, a starting pitcher to complete the rotation, and a high-impact reliever to strengthen the bullpen.

To finalize those moves, Miami could use some pieces from its current Major League roster as trade bait. Among them is catcher and first baseman Liam Hicks, who has sparked the interest of several organizations thanks to his solid performance in his debut season.
