Minister Kelvin Cruz throws first pitch at Citi Field

New York, USA — Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz threw out the first pitch before the start of Saturday’s game in which the New York Mets hosted the Seattle Mariners at Citi Field. The Mets’ veteran Dominican outfielder, Starling Marte, served as the honorary catcher.

During an interview on the Spanish-language broadcast network, Cruz thanked the gesture of the New York Mets organization for allowing him the distinction of making the honorary pitch and also pointed out the most relevant aspects of his first year in charge of the Ministry. The minister completed an intense day in this city, heading the inauguration of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games, an event that was attended by renowned figures, community and sports leaders of the Dominican community in this city. Prior to the honorary launch, Cruz shared impressions with the Mets’ leader, Carlos Mendoza, and with several Dominican players, who expressed the joy they feel for the celebration of the Juan Pablo Duarte Games. Likewise, the minister was invited by the Spanish-language broadcast network of the Mets, where he highlighted, in broad strokes, the importance that the celebration of these Juan Pablo Duarte games has for the Dominican community in New York. “We are very satisfied and impressed by the atmosphere of joy and Dominican spirit of the Dominican community in this city, and by the support they are giving to the Juan Pablo Duarte Games. This is part of President Luis Abinader’s vision to support and give the importance that the Dominican community in New York deserves,” said Cruz, while defining Dominican baseball players as great ambassadors in foreign lands. “We are very proud of each of our players, whom we consider genuine ambassadors and role models for our youth in the Dominican Republic,” said Cruz, when interviewed by Max Pérez Jiménez and Johnny Trujillo.
