Rafael Devers is introduced by the San Francisco Giants: “I'll play where they put me”

San Francisco. Rafael Devers began a new stage in his Major League career this Tuesday by being officially presented as a new player for the San Francisco Giants, in a ceremony that was attended by Buster Posey, team president of operations, and the legend Barry Bonds.

During his presentation, the 28-year-old Dominican third baseman showed a renewed attitude and thanked his former organization, the Boston Red Sox, for giving him the opportunity to reach the Majors. "What happened is in the past. They brought me here to win, and that's something I like: to compete and win," declared Devers, visibly motivated.
The player, nicknamed "Carita," assured he was willing to collaborate from any position on the field: "I am available for wherever they put me. They are the bosses and I will play where they need me."
Devers' words mark a contrast with the controversies experienced at the beginning of the year, when he publicly refused to change positions in Boston. However, today he seems to have left those episodes behind to focus on his new role.

Role already defined

Giants manager Bob Melvin revealed that Devers will debut as a designated hitter and third batter in the offensive order, while beginning a defensive reconditioning process with a view to eventually playing at first base. "It will be a day-to-day process, because he hasn't played defense this year," Melvin explained. For his part, Buster Posey confessed that the change was negotiated for several weeks and was finalized after days of intense conversations with the Red Sox. "We had been in talks for three or four weeks. In the last ten days, the efforts intensified," said the director. Devers expressed that, although the team change took him by surprise, he takes it with maturity and commitment: "It was a normal day until the news arrived. I took it like a man. I appreciate that they have traded me and I come to give the best of myself."
