According to MLB.com, Valdez received a US$3.5 million bonus, one of the highest awarded in this market, reflecting the team's strong confidence in his projection. The young prospect is ranked as the number 11 of his generation by MLB Pipeline. Exploration reports highlight Valdez as an advanced hitter for his age.
“He consistently produces hard contact with an efficient and well-sequenced barrel path,” notes MLB.com, which also highlights his fluid right-handed swing, good use of his hips, and his ability to generate power naturally.

Offensive Impact Profile

Valdez possesses the ability to hit the ball to all angles of the field, with good control of the strike zone and a discipline uncommon in players of his age. His physical build and natural strength allow him to project as a hitter of the middle part of the offensive order in the future, according to evaluators. FanGraphs, for its part, assigns him a Future Value (FV) of 45 and places him as the sixth best international prospect of the class, initially projecting him as a middle infielder with offensive impact. For an organization like the Rays, which bases much of its competitiveness on the development of young talent, the signing of Valdez is a strategic bet. Tampa Bay rarely competes in the high-cost free agent market, so its biggest investments are directed towards attracting and training elite prospects.
