Chicago.- – The mythical ex-gardener of the Chicago Cubs, Sammy Sosa, returned tonight to his old home, the historic Wrigley Field, for the first time since 2004, and was received with a standing ovation and deafening cheers from the fans who celebrated his legacy in the franchise.

Before the start of the third entry, the Cubs projected a tribute video on the scoreboard that reviewed the best moments of Sosa’s career with the club. Upon recognizing the images, the fans stood up and applauded for several minutes, in a spontaneous show of affection and respect. At the end of the video, Sosa appeared in a VIP suite to bow in a sign of gratitude.
With 56 years old, Sosa hit 545 home runs in 13 seasons with the Cubs (1992–2004), averaging .285 batting average, 45 home runs and 116 RBIs per season. He was the National League MVP in 1998, when he competed closely with Mark McGwire in the historic chase for the home run record in a season, and appeared in seven All-Star Games, as well as winning six Silver Bats.“Seeing Sosa again with these colors was very special. Obviously, we miss that player who gave us so much,” commented young outfielder Pete Crow‑Armstrong, who also greeted him personally before the game.
