The winner of the 2022 National League Cy Young Award was already part of the Dominican team in the 2023 WBC, a tournament he attended just months after signing one of the most dominant seasons in the recent history of Major League Baseball. In that season, Alcántara led MLB in innings pitched, complete games, and shutouts, solidifying himself as one of baseball's most durable and reliable starters. Despite recommendations to prioritize rest and protect his professional future, the star right-winger opted to defend the national colors, reaffirming his commitment to the country. Alongside Alcántara, Fernando Tatis Jr., Oneil Cruz, and Cristopher Sánchez have also been confirmed for the Dominican roster, significantly strengthening the core of high-impact players who will participate in the tournament.
