Pittsburgh. – As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, the name of Dominican Oneil Cruz has begun to be mentioned prominently in the market. According to a report by Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates would be listening to offers for their versatile outfielder, although they would not be actively offering him.
The information was backed by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, who noted that several teams have shown interest in Cruz, but that a trade remains unlikely at the moment.
With just 26 years old, Cruz represents one of the most intriguing pieces available in this transfer window. This season, the Dominican has 16 home runs and leads the Major Leagues with 33 stolen bases, in addition to having recently participated in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby 2025.
Originally a shortstop, Cruz was moved to the outfield at the end of 2024, where he has demonstrated his athletic talent and offensive power. His potential, combined with his youth and contractual control — he will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is under contract until 2028 — make him a highly sought-after asset for contending teams.
However, sources indicate that any move for Cruz would require a considerable offer, given his current value and future projection.
The situation will be one of the most followed leading up to the July 31st deadline, in a season where the Pirates are still defining their direction in the medium term.
