Tampa, USA – At just 22 years old, Trey Yesavage had a dream debut in the Major Leagues, marking an unforgettable chapter in the history of the Toronto Blue Jays. The young right-hander became the pitcher with the most strikeouts in a debut for the franchise, striking out nine Tampa Bay Rays batters in five innings of absolute dominance.
In a game that went to 11 innings, Toronto won 2-1, a result that allowed them to take a five-game lead in the American League East Division. However, the conversation of the night revolved around the impressive debut of Yesavage, considered one of the most promising prospects in current baseball.
Yesavage, who ascended meteorically through all levels of minor leagues in 2025, showed a devastating repertoire. His splitter was the big weapon, generating 11 strikeouts in just 14 swings, and confusing the opposing offense time and again. With just 69 pitches, the right-hander tied for fifth place for most strikeouts in a debut since the implementation of pitch tracking in 2008.
