Two Dominicans among seven players suspended for doping in the Venezuelan baseball league

Santo Domingo.-The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) announced this Sunday the suspension of seven players for violating the Anti-Doping Program (PALVBP) during the 2024-2025 season, including Dominican pitchers Cristofer Ogando and Félix Paulino.

In addition to the Dominicans, the list includes Venezuelans Willians Astudillo (Caribes de Anzoátegui), Omar Bencomo Jr. (Tigres de Aragua) and Jhoulys Chacín (Leones del Caracas), as well as American Tyler Alexander (Navegantes del Magallanes) and Cuban Yoanner Negrín (Tigres de Aragua).

The sanctions

• Willians Astudillo and Tyler Alexander received sanctions of 20 games.
• Omar Bencomo Jr. and Jhoulys Chacín, repeat offenders, were suspended for 60 games.
• Cristofer Ogando, Félix Paulino and Yoanner Negrín must serve 30 games of suspension.

The LVBP explained in a statement that the results were ratified after the review of the counter-tests, and that the decisions were made in accordance with articles 30° and 41° of the anti-doping regulations. Likewise, he recalled that the players have a period of 24 hours to appeal the decision, under Article 40 of the League's Code of Ethics and Discipline.

An effort for clean baseball

The professional circuit's directive emphasized that the goal of the Anti-Doping Program is to "offer a clean spectacle to fans and raise awareness among players about the negative repercussions that the use of prohibited substances can have on their health and sporting career."
