Yadier Molina returns to the Cardinals’ dugout as a guest coach

ST. LOUIS, Missouri.. An emblematic figure will reappear in the St. Louis Cardinals dugout this weekend. Former Puerto Rican catcher Yadier Molina will join Oliver Marmol’s coaching staff for the Friday and Saturday series against the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium, in what will be his first official presence with the club since his retirement in 2022.

Manager Marmol explained that the invitation was immediate as soon as he knew that Molina would be in the city.

“As soon as I heard he was going to be in town, inviting him to sit next to me was the right thing to do. It’s good for the players, for the coaching staff, and frankly, it’s also great for the fans,” he pointed out, according to statements collected by The Athletic.

Molina, 43 years old, maintains the aspiration of becoming a manager in the Major Leagues and seeks to accumulate experience in the dugout. He already managed the Puerto Rico national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and will repeat in the 2026 edition. With a 19-season MLB career, all with the Cardinals, Molina left an impressive legacy: 10 All-Star Game appearances, nine Gold Gloves, and two World Series titles. His return, although brief, reinforces the bond with the organization and the fans who saw him grow into one of the most respected catchers of his generation.
