Andrés Félix highlights growth of Dominican basketball during FITUR 2026

Madrid, Spain. – Within the framework of the special coverage of FITUR 2026, the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic continues to strengthen the promotion of sports tourism as one of the strategic axes of the country, with the participation of outstanding figures of national sport. During the event, the player from the National Basketball Team and Real Madrid, Andrés Félix, expressed his pride in representing the Dominican Republic in one of the most demanding leagues in European basketball. "I feel very happy and grateful to God for the opportunity to be here and be part of this space that represents our country in Spain. It is a pride to be able to continue carrying the name of the Dominican Republic to international stages," the athlete stated to De Último. Minuto. Félix highlighted the notable growth that Dominican basketball has experienced in recent years, evidenced by the increasing presence of Dominican players in high-level European leagues. "Dominican basketball continues to grow tremendously. Every day we see more players joining the European level and that speaks very well of the work that is being done. Personally, I feel comfortable with Real Madrid, improving every day and contributing more efficiently to the team," he affirmed. The guard also valued facing compatriots like Jean Montero, a figure for Valencia Basket, in the Spanish league as a significant achievement, highlighting the pride it represents to see Dominicans competing with each other at the highest level. "Sharing in the selection and then facing each other as rivals in Europe is a source of pride. Each one represents the country from their team and that strengthens Dominican basketball," he expressed. Likewise, Félix referred to the process of developing young talents like "Yaxel Pérez", underlining the importance of guidance, discipline, and support both on and off the court. "As a team and as a country, we must support our players, guide them on the right path. Discipline, respect, and focus are key to personal and sporting growth," he noted. To conclude, the Real Madrid player sent a message to Dominican youth interested in basketball, highlighting that there are multiple opportunities beyond the NBA. "The NBA isn't everything. Europe, Asia, and other continents offer great opportunities. The most important thing is to maintain discipline, focus, and the right mindset. It's a source of pride to see young people from our neighborhoods develop and represent not only the country, but also their families," he concluded. The participation of figures like Andrés Félix in FITUR 2026 reinforces the Ministry of Tourism's commitment to promoting sport as a driver of development, international projection, and tourist attraction for the Dominican Republic.
