SANTO DOMINGO. – The name of Dominican-American Charlie Villanueva will be inscribed in the history of national sports after being announced as a new inductee into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.

Villanueva, born on August 24, 1984 in Queens, New York, to Dominican parents, will be inducted next Sunday, November 16, during the 59th Induction Ceremony, to be held in the auditorium of the Hall of Fame of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The selection was announced by Dr. Dionisio Guzmán, president of the Permanent Committee, who highlighted that it is the eighth selection of the Class of 2025, the result of the votes cast by the Veterans Committee and national sports reporters through an electronic system. The former NBA player, who played for more than a decade in the best league in the world, was also a pillar of the national basketball team, being part of one of its most brilliant eras and contributing to the conquest of two international medals: a silver and a bronze with the senior team.Villanueva joins a distinguished generation of inductees that includes former major leaguers José Reyes, Edwin Encarnación, and José Offerman; the promoters Beato Miguel Cruz (volleyball) and Gonzalo Mejía (tennis); as well as athletes Juan Carlos Jacinto (judo) and Joan Guzmán (boxing).
Dr. Guzmán pointed out that all those chosen will be immortalized "for their sporting achievements and for their exemplary citizen trajectories." The ceremony will be headed by Guzmán, along with the Honorary President, businessman Manuel Estrella, and the secretary of the Hall, Rafael Damirón.
