NEW YORK. The 2025-26 NBA season will tip off on October 21st with a high-caliber double-header broadcast by NBC, marking the network's return to league broadcasts after a 23-year absence.

The first duel will pit Kevin Durant's Houston Rockets against the defending champions Oklahoma City Thunder, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Later, on the West Coast, Stephen Curry's Golden State Warriors will host LeBron James' Los Angeles Lakers, in a clash that promises to revive one of the most followed rivalries of the last decade.
The NBA's return to NBC is part of a new 11-year television contract, which includes the broadcast of 100 regular season games — including "NBA Tuesdays" — and coverage on Peacock. According to Sports Media Watch, the choice of the opening games aims to bring together on screen three of the league's top figures: Durant, Curry and James, in a nostalgic nod to the golden era of the NBA on the network during the 90s and early 2000s.
In addition, the NBA revealed the traditional Christmas schedule, which will include five featured games:
- Cleveland Cavaliers @ New York Knicks
- San Antonio Spurs @ Oklahoma City Thunder
- Houston Rockets @ LA Lakers
- Dallas Mavericks @ Golden State Warriors
- Minnesota Timberwolves @ Denver Nuggets
