Brazil sweeps DR and advances to volleyball final at Panam Junior; Dominican Republic will play for bronze

ASUNCIÓN, PARAGUAY. The Brazilian women's national team qualified for the final of the volleyball tournament of the II Junior Pan American Games by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-0 this Thursday, with partial scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13.

The Brazilians, who had already defeated the Dominicans in the group stage, will face the winner of the semifinal between Argentina and Mexico for the gold. The Dominican team will compete for the bronze medal against the loser of that match, this Friday at 1:00 PM (12:00 noon, RD time). The South American attack was led by "Maria Clara De Moura", author of 19 points, while "Jacqueline Schmitz" and "Camilly De Souza" contributed 11 each. For the Dominican Republic, captain "Katielle Alonzo" was the most outstanding with 12 points, followed by "Alondra Tapia" with 9 and "Florangel Terrero" with 6. In the statistics, Brazil dominated in attack 44-27, in blocking 11-3 and they were tied in serves (5-5). After two relatively even initial sets, the Brazilians swept in the third, establishing an 18-6 lead and closing with a final rally of 6-2.
Swimming closes participation In the closing of the Dominican participation in swimming, Elizabeth Jiménez took fifth place in her series of the 200-meter individual medley (2:23.53). The men's 4x100 medley relay, composed of Anthony Piñeiro, Pablo Solano, Javier Núñez and Cristian Ramos, was also fifth, with a time of 3:48.58.
