New York —In a night charged with emotions and rain at Yankee Stadium, the San Diego Padres staged an electrifying comeback to defeat the New York Yankees 4-3, in a game marked by the ejections of manager Mike Shildt and Dominican star Fernando Tatis Jr.

The drama began in the eighth inning, when Tatis was ejected for arguing a called strike with home plate umpire Adrian Johnson. Seconds later, Shildt came out in defense of his player, staging a heated protest that included throwing his lineup card, a pen, and even his glasses, in one of the most viral images of the night.
What seemed like a lost night for the Padres turned into a memorable comeback. With two outs and the bases loaded, Manny Machado hit a two-run double, followed by a single from Xander Bogaerts that brought two more to the plate, turning the score around in the blink of an eye.
“This victory has a deeper value,” Shildt stated after the match. “It represents the DNA of this team: fight, dedication, and unity.”

Luis Arráez, who negotiated the key walk prior to Machado’s hit, said: “When I saw Mike do that, I said: ‘We’re going to come back’”.
San Diego’s bullpen, with a collective ERA of 1.68, was in charge of sealing the victory. Rookie Ryan Bergert earned his first in the Major Leagues by pitching a scoreless seventh inning. It was the Padres’ ninth win this season coming from behind.
“This shows who we are,” Tatis said. “Here we all have each other’s backs.”
