SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) will hold a mass this Thursday, January 15, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the death of engineer Roque Napoleón Muñoz (Polón), a prominent sports leader and former president of that organization.

The Eucharist will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the San Antonio María Claret parish, located in the Naco extension, and will feature the participation of sports leaders, coaches, athletes, family and friends of the renowned promoter of Dominican sports, who passed away on January 15, 2011. The COD, along with the Muñoz Peña family, has extended an invitation to the members of the Executive Committee, national sports federations, associations, clubs, leagues and sports unions, as well as to the sports community in general, to pay tribute to who was also a member of the International Olympic Committee and the Executive Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO). Polón Muñoz was inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame in the 1965 ceremony as a promoter, and is remembered for his tireless work in favor of sports, art, culture, and school physical education, being one of the main managers of the creation, by law, of the National Institute of School Physical Education (INEFI). The attendance of family, friends, and members of the San Antonio María Claret parish, the congregation to which the renowned Olympic leader belonged, is expected..
