Caracas (EFE).- The legendary American boxer Evander Holyfield, whose ear was bitten by Mike Tyson during a fight in 1997, is one of the guest stars at an exhibition night in Caracas, which will also feature figures such as seven-time world champion Jorge ‘El Travieso’ Arce and super featherweight monarch Emanuel ‘El Vaquero’ Navarrete.

During the weigh-in ceremony, Holyfield, 62, the only professional fighter to win the heavyweight title on four different occasions – surpassing Muhammad Ali’s record of three wins – encouraged the boxers participating in this Saturday’s event to “give it their all.”
In addition, he recalled his visit to Venezuela in 1983, the year in which he participated in the Pan American Games representing his country and when he obtained a silver medal after losing against the Cuban Pablo Romero. For his part, Navarrete, 30 years old, who since February 2023 holds the title of super featherweight world champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), thanked for the affection with which, he said, he has been received in the South American nation. “That makes you feel good, happy, content,” said The Cowboy.

Both Navarrete and Arce visited the sports center in the Caracas community of San Agustín on the afternoon of this Friday, where they witnessed exhibition fights between children and adolescents from local boxing schools and nearby areas. For this Saturday’s event, which will take place at the Tamanaco Hotel in Caracas, the fights between Douglas González ‘La Guabina’ and Starling Martínez ‘Martines’, as well as between Jesús Laya ‘El Rayo’ and Iván García ‘El Tsunami’, are scheduled.
