The sports world is in mourning following the tragic death of Indian tennis player Radhika Yadav, 25, who was shot dead by her own father, Deepak Yadav, at her residence in Gurugram, last Thursday afternoon. According to the sports network ESPN, the Gurugram police received a report from a private hospital in the city, which informed about the death of a young woman from gunshot wounds. Upon arriving at the medical center, the agents only found the victim’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, and not her parents.

According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) website, Radhika played 36 singles matches and 7 doubles matches under the auspices of that organization. Her last individual encounter was in March 2024 and the most recent in doubles in June 2023. Although she had not participated in international tournaments for over a year, she continued to be active as a coach in her academy in Gurugram, which became the main reason for tension with her father. “Deepak had been upset for a while because the neighbors made fun of him for his daughter’s income. He was worried about their comments: they insisted that the house was running on her money and that he depended too much on it. He had asked her several times (Radhika) to stop working at the academy, but she refused. He couldn’t take it anymore,” police station inspector Vinod Kumar told The Indian Express, as quoted by ESPN.
