Texas, United States. – The Argentina national team confirmed this Saturday its status as a favorite heading into the 2026 World Cup by prevailing 2-0 over Honduras in a friendly match played on U.S. soil.
The team led by Lionel Scaloni dominated much of the match thanks to their usual ball possession, high pressure, and offensive dynamic, once again showing the collective solidity that made them world champions.
The Albiceleste opened the scoring in the 37th minute through Lautaro Martínez, who confidently converted a penalty to spark celebrations among the fans present at Kyle Field stadium in Texas.
Although Honduras tried to respond with quick transitions led by Luis Palma and Jorge Benguché, the Central American team found it difficult to generate constant danger against the organized Argentine defense.
In the second half, Argentina maintained control of the match and extended their lead in the 54th minute thanks to Giuliano Simeone, who finished with his right foot after an eye-catching offensive combination with Lautaro Martínez.
With the result practically secured, both coaches took advantage of the final stretch to make substitutions and test tactical variations ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.
Captain Lionel Messi did not participate in the match as a physical precaution, although he was accompanying the group during the match preparation.
