Dominican Bayron Matos signs with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad

United States — Dominican player Bayron Matos, 24 years old, signed this Tuesday with the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season, taking another step towards his goal of becoming the first athlete born in the Dominican Republic to officially debut in the league.

Matos, who is 2.01 meters tall and weighs 151 kilograms, had been part of the Miami Dolphins preseason program, but a head injury suffered on July 25th kept him off the final roster. After recovering, he was discharged on July 30th and continued his process within the concussion protocol, missing the three preseason games.

The offensive lineman arrived in the NFL in April 2024 as an undrafted free agent, after not being selected in the Draft, participating in the International Player Pathway 2024 program, a league initiative that seeks to integrate international talents into US teams.

Before venturing into American football, Matos stood out as a pitcher in Dominican baseball and later emigrated to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he developed in basketball with Hamilton Heights Christian Academy. Subsequently, he was part of the South Florida Bulls (2021-2022) college basketball team, before transferring his talent to the American football program in the following season.
