NFL: On the Road to Super Bowl LIX

The NFL season reached its peak in January with the conference finals.
The Philadelphia Eagles, led by Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, were crowned champions of the National Conference (NFC), while the Kansas City Chiefs, with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce at the forefront, dominated the American Conference (AFC). For the Eagles, the final represented their fifth appearance in a game for the Vince Lombardi trophy, with the aim of avenging the defeat suffered in 2023. The Chiefs, for their part, reached their fifth participation in six years, consolidating a recent dynasty and starting with a slight favoritism for the decisive duel, scheduled for January 26th.

South American U-20: Blowouts and Qualified

The South American U-20, held in Venezuela, brought together ten national teams in the fight for four tickets to the World Cup of the category.
The great highlight of the tournament was given by Argentina, which signed one of the most resounding victories of the championship by thrashing 6-0 their classic rival, a result that marked the development of the tournament. After the initial phase and the final hexagonal, the selections of Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil kept their aspirations alive, while the host Venezuela, along with Peru (without points), Bolivia and Ecuador, were eliminated.

Baseball Hall of Fame 2025

January also left historical news in baseball. The Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) elected three new figures to enter Cooperstown in 2025:
  • Ichiro Suzuki, who became the first Asian-born player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
  • CC Sabathia, a dominant left-handed pitcher during his career in Major League Baseball.
  • Billy Wagner, recognized as one of the elite closers of his generation.
Despite these exaltations, Mariano Rivera (2019) continues to be the only player unanimously chosen in the history of the Hall of Fame.

Formula E: First Roar of the Year

Electric motors were also felt in January with the Mexico City E-Prix. British driver Oliver Rowland, at the wheel of Nissan, won the race on January 11, achieving his third victory in the category. Meanwhile, Porsche took the lead in the drivers' championship, with António Félix da Costa as the leader of the World Championship after finishing second in Mexico and accumulating 37 points in the general classification.
