Foxborough, USA – Kylian Mbappé was decisive for France once again. The forward scored one of the goals in the 2-0 victory over Morocco in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals, tied Lionel Messi with eight goals in the race for the Golden Boot, and sent the reigning world runners-up to the semifinals.

The team led by Didier Deschamps had control of the match from the start, although they encountered resistance from goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and a well-organized Moroccan defense. The goalkeeper even saved a penalty taken by Mbappé in the first half, keeping the score goalless before halftime.

The African resistance ended in the 60th minute, when Mbappé received a ball at the edge of the area and finished with precision to open the scoring. With that goal, he reached eight goals in the tournament, tying Lionel Messi as the championship’s top scorer.

Six minutes later, France extended their lead thanks to Ousmane Dembélé, who finished off a quick counterattack with a powerful shot from outside the box after combining with Mbappé and Michael Olise, practically sealing the match.

Morocco reacted in the final minutes, but barely managed to register their first shot on goal in the 83rd minute and could not avoid another elimination against France, which had also defeated them in the semifinals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

With this victory, France became the first team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup semifinals and awaits the winner of the duel between Spain and Belgium to find out their next opponent.
