Snoop Dogg will headline the NFL Christmas game halftime show
United States – The National Football League (NFL) announced this Tuesday that American rapper Snoop Dogg will be the headlining artist for the halftime show of the traditional Christmas game, scheduled for next December 25, in the matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions.
“On Christmas Day, the NFL and your uncle Snoop are teaming up to bring music, love, and good vibes to the whole world. That’s the kind of Christmas magic that even Santa can’t fit in his bag,” expressed the artist, known worldwide for hits like Drop It Like It’s Hot.
Snoop Dogg maintains a close relationship with the NFL and has been the protagonist of some of the league’s most memorable moments in recent years. In 2022, he participated in the iconic halftime show of Super Bowl LVI, alongside Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, in a historic performance dedicated to hip-hop. In addition, he has served as the presenter of the NFL Honors, the annual gala that recognizes the main figures of the season.
For this Christmas, the NFL scheduled three games corresponding to Week 16, which will be broadcast through the streaming platform Netflix. The day will begin with the duel between the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys, followed by the match between the Lions and Vikings, which will feature the show called “Snoop’s Holiday Halftime Party”. The closing of the Christmas schedule will be the night match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos.
From Netflix, the initiative was celebrated as a bet to strengthen the connection with fans on a special date. “Christmas Game Day has become even more attractive. We are uniting two global cultural giants, the NFL and the unparalleled Snoop Dogg, to offer the hottest halftime show. It’s the best gift for the fans,” said Bela Bajaria, content director of the platform.
The NFL has intermittently held games on Christmas since 1920, although for decades it was not common to schedule matches on December 25 due to the calendar format. Even after the introduction of the playoffs in 1932, the presence of games on that date was limited.
It was in 1971, with a league already made up of 26 teams, when two playoffs games were played for the first time on Christmas, including the remembered matchups between Cowboys and Vikings, and Dolphins against Chiefs, the latter extended to two overtime periods and lasting nearly four hours.
With the participation of Snoop Dogg, the NFL seeks to reinforce the appeal of its Christmas schedule and offer an experience that combines sports, music, and entertainment for millions of fans worldwide.
